You Are More was founded in late 2022 by Mental Health Advocates Luis Mendez, Shannon Mulcahy, and Melissa Resendez.
All founding members suffered differently with their mental health.
“With great pain comes greater purpose.”
The goal was to create a safe space where followers could feel empowered with 1-minute affirmation videos that helped to remind them “You are more than a stigma.”
Once Luis started wearing the original “you are more” shirt in his affirmation videos, followers demanded to support the mission statement in clothing.
The videos became a commercial for the t-shirts. Our website was created to allow everyone a chance to become an ambassador for mental health.
We donate a portion of the net profit proceeds to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention(AFSP) We have been featured on their Voices of Hope page to encourage others to be monthly donors for suicide prevention programs and initiatives.
The 988 in the name was a tribute to the lifeline network anyone can call if you’re experiencing a mental health emergency.
Our first big break came when we had a mini viral video with Horacio from MTV’s “The Challenge” speaking about his mental health battles. This video encouraged our followers tremendously and had a huge reach. The hype around our brand was created as Horacio wore the original “You Are More” shirt.
We worked with everyone following this from musicians like Caroline Dare or some original Power Rangers from the 90’s like Catherine Sutherland and Nakia Burrise. We realized wrestling was a big passion for all of us and the ones that people engaged with the most.
We think it’s because these are larger-than-life characters on TV but in reality, they are humans who also have struggles, just like everyone else.
Shortly after this, we began to collaborate with more wrestlers. Kurt Angle was our first big wrestling star who caught the eye of the wrestling community. Since then, we began to lean more into the wrestling community and worked with the biggest stars and future stars of wrestling today.
We were most recently featured on TNA superstar Matt Hardy’s Instagram page. It was through all these collaborations that eventually we caught the eyes of TNA Wrestling, which is a well-known wrestling company in the US.
They were fans of what we were doing and the recent fundraisers we helped spearhead such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation, St.Baldricks, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Kenosha.
In our first live wrestling event, we debuted a “You Are More” Luchador t-shirt. This was a tribute to wrestling and mental health advocacy.
The mask was a tribute to suicide prevention as it was designed with semi-colons in place to remind you that your story is not over and your story is still being written.
This design sold out at this event as the combination of wrestling and mental health advocacy proved to be a great formula for wrestling fans who are also struggling.
With all of our successes in leading campaigns and fundraisers, TNA saw value in us. You Can Support this collab at tnamerch.com 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
