When we hear the phrase “self-care”, baths, facials, and taking care of our skin and body
often come to mind. In my humble opinion, self-care is so much more than that. Of course, we
feel so much better after a spa day or an at-home facial, but that is only a temporary fix and
feeling. True self-care is so much more. It encompasses feeling good not only on the outside, but
on the inside as well (mind, body, and soul.)
I have always been into makeup, skincare, and following the latest beauty and fashion
trends. I often get my hair, nails, and eyebrows done. That feeling of leaving the salon with a
fresh blowout or having your nails looking “on fleek” is the best. You feel unstoppable and so
much more confident in yourself. The real question and challenges often are: “Well, how do I
feel good on the inside now too.?”
As a woman who suffers from anxiety, depression, and PMDD, taking care of my mental
health is just as if not more important to me than having makeup on or dressing to impress. If I
am not feeling good mentally or physically, I will not have the energy to do what I need to do.
Meditation, yoga, journaling, therapy and even going out with friends and family are also
considered to be forms of self-care. Anything that makes you feel good and is good for your
mental and emotional health is always a plus.
Staying away from bad energy, negative vibes, and people that don’t believe in your
dreams or make you feel bad about yourself helps you to maintain a positive self-image.
Try to stay close to people who bring out the best in you, not the stress in you. Having an
amazing support system of family and friends has helped me so much throughout my challenging
times in life more than any material purchase or spa day ever could!
