The Top Five Ways To Solve Procrastination

Lets face it, we all do it.....

How accurate is this meme?

I’m sure most of us have had that exact same look like Lisa Simpson way too many times. I will start something, look at my phone, or go do something else entirely.

Soo.. what is procrastination? Procrastination is defined as the act of delaying or postponing something.

In the world we live in, distractions are all over the place. It is very hard to focus on one single task at a time. This was especially hard when I was a full-time college student and working part-time. Such a struggle.

The real question is: How do we stop procrastinating?

Disclaimer: I am not an expert by any means but these five tips below have helped me tremendously throughout the years:

  1. Try to start the task and focus on it for at least a few minutes. Now, I know this sounds very obvious but sometimes the only way is to just start. I came across some research on the Ziegranick effect. If you start something, your brain will remain alert until you finish it

  2. List your tasks from most difficult to least difficult. This has been extremely helpful in navigating my workload. To stay organized, write or type out a to-do list. Then, highlight or underline the tasks that are most-least critical for the day.  I feel like I am the most productive from 9:00 am till about 2:00 pm.  After having lunch and multiple meetings on Zoom, the fatigue kicks in. Try to save the rest of the day for emails/tasks that require a little less effort/energy.
  3.  Believe in yourself. As cliche as this sounds, positive self-talk and encouragement go a long way. You will motivate yourself to finish in no time.
  4. Say goodbye to distractions! Put your phone on do not disturb, turn off the TV, and tell your best friend you will text her the tea later. Focus on putting all of your efforts into what needs to get done.
  5. Be kind to yourself. We all have our days or moments when we are just not feeling it. Remember, It is okay and we are human. Take breaks and come back to it with a clear mind. You could also go do something else that you enjoy. Try to give yourself a breather and some time to reset. If you rush through something just to get it done, you will have to re-do it or it won’t be your best work. This will waste time and ultimately lead to frustration and anxiety(which nobody has time for.)

I hope these tips help warriors! Comment if you have any suggestions or if these tips resonate with you and share them with a friend. Subscribe to know when a new blog post is up. Thanks for the support warriors xoxo
