There’s this saying “Love is blind”. I never knew what that meant until I went
through it myself.
As women, we tend to love hard and believe we must settle for anything
or anyone.
Growing up in a household full of love from my parents, I always
wanted to experience that kind of love. Back in the day, the high school
sweethearts, as they called it.
Being sixteen years old, I thought I had found that one
true love. If only I knew then what I would get myself into.
Just because someone says I love you, doesn’t always mean it’s genuine.
I thought this man truly loved and cared for me but he didn’t do anything except
put me in a dark place. This is something that I never want to experience again.
When people think of domestic violence, they believe it is only physical.
This person mentally and emotionally abused me. He said things that would make me hate myself even more. He would curse at me if I didn’t do things his way or on his time. I was told I would never be anything in life.
I also discovered him telling other women that he was just using me.
There were days I couldn’t eat or sleep because I felt sick to my
stomach. My anxiety and depression got so bad at this time of my life.
Not many people know my story because I keep most things to myself(unless you’re someone I’m close to.)
I sit here every day questioning myself: “Why did I stay? “How come I didn’t
know my worth?”
Then I remember to tell myself to be happy you got out when you did.
When I finally let him go, I started feeling like myself again. I’m standing up for domestic violence victims. I want my story to help anyone out there who is afraid to get help. Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help from a friend or family or even outside sources.
