In 2020, the citizens of our planet faced an unusual event: the spread of a new virus that practically halted our lives and forced us to adapt to remote living and isolation.
During that time, I did not feel well mentally. I felt down and sad. I had to battle many intrusive thoughts.
It also did not help that I was forced to struggle in silence in isolation(in order to respect the quarantine rules) This heavily affected my well-being. I felt like I, alone, was facing these challenges. It sucked out my will to live.
Luckily, I outlived this quarantine period(which ended a few months later) I was able to reconnect with my friends as well.
Despite the return to old ways, this period took a toll on my mind. I felt like I alone had struggled during that time…..
This feeling started to change when l I reconnected with an old friend. We started speaking about that weird time when Covid was at its peak. As it turns out, my friend also struggled with a dip in their mental well-being during that time as well.
So I was not alone in my struggles, after all. I just felt like I was due to isolation.
I asked a few people about their quarantine experience and it turns out that people who were isolated alone(8 times out of 10) struggled in some way or another with their thoughts.
This got us thinking:
“Wait, if millions of people are struggling individually as well and are forced to internalize this struggle, then why do I have to struggle in silence?”
Why can I not share my struggles with someone else so we can lift each other up and overcome the obstacles of life in an easier way?”
With this mission in mind, we assembled a team of people who related to the goal and had different skill sets from marketing, to technology, etc…
This is how HAYFT(how are you feeling today) was born.
Our mission is to create a judgment-free and safe space on the internet to allow humans to help and support each other.
The HAYFT project is run by a team of six people from all over the globe: From Nigeria, Egypt, Sweden, and Lebanon. Each member brings something unique to the table. Their skills range from psychology to app development, coding + artificial intelligence, and marketing. What unites them all is their struggles with mental health. This shows that anyone from any background can go through rough patches. People empower each other(like the team proves): We Are Stronger Together.
I have had the pleasure of testing out the app that HAYFT is currently developing for the last couple of months through Discord. I am honored to be apart of such a positive iniative.I have been sharing my story and connecting with my fellow group members-it was been such a great experience. Please be sure to follow/ support them on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/h.a.y.f.t/?hl=en Thank you for the support always warriors xoxo
