The Value of Mental Health

It is important to take care of your mental health.

In fact, I would say that it is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Your quality of life is linked to both your mental and physical health.

A prime example is that anger and stress are linked to a few illnesses. A healthy mind and body can lead to a healthy lifestyle(which leads to a better quality of life) However, as people, we naturally go through ups and downs and need to find healthy ways to deal with the downs.

This is natural, after all, if you were always happy, would happiness truly have a meaning? That’s one way to look at life. Things might be bad at the moment but there’s also the potential for things to get better.

I feel that in those moments when you are feeling particularly down, you have to find a way to feel better that is best suited for you. Like taking a nap, meditating, exercising, reading a book, going for a walk, talking to a therapist, or even talking to a friend.

Being by yourself can also be a good option as well, however, too much isolation can lead to loneliness. As a society, humanity is the social connection we create by communicating with other people.

It’s definitely advantageous to have a circle of support in your life. People that you can trust and communicate with. People that have your best interest at heart and are able to tell you things even things that you may not want to hear in an effective and sensitive way.

I also think it is important to seek therapy if you are struggling to the point that your mental health is severely declining(examples: extreme anger or depression)

It can be advantageous to talk to an unbiased professional that is able to deliver information to you in a sensitive way. Seeing your life from a more objective viewpoint can help you view your life from a different angle.

Maybe you could have handled that situation differently or maybe you’re being too hard on yourself. A fresh perspective may help you see the things that you thought you were seeing from a different angle.

I feel that a fresh perspective is invaluable as no singular person is able to see the whole picture. Like the old saying that there are three perspectives to a story. Well, I believe that there are numerous perspectives to a person’s life.

A positive mindset is an ideal asset that could give you the determination to push forward and live your best life.  It may not be possible to always be positive but I believe that if you put your best self forward and do your best to be positive then good things will happen.

Life moves on and things happen but it’s all about how we deal with it.

One of the best things that you can do to overcome negative moments is to take care of your mental health so you can focus on the positive. It’s not weak to go to therapy to talk about your problems as a matter of fact it is strong to admit that you have to prioritize your mental health.

That is the main thing I would like for people to understand. You should take care of your mental health the best way you can.

In Honor of June being Men’s Mental Health Month as well, it does not make you weak to prioritize your mental health.

It actually takes a great amount of courage to be open with your feelings.

We are all people, we all have emotions.

It’s okay to reach out to a mental health professional if you feel the need or desire to talk to someone specialized in helping others deal with their mental health.
